House reconstruction in Štanjel
MD2, Drago Štefanec, Marjetica Ilich Štefanec / 2000
In the renovation of a typical modest stone house, the assistance of the Institute for the protection of cultural heritage from Nova Gorica was extremely welcome. The house, which adapts to the steep terrain and is clamped into the building line between two narrow streets, has kept its original appearance. Insofar as it was possible, the original materials were retained or replaced with exact replicas. Emergency static and rehabilitation interventions are barely noticeable and take into account the existing construction. The house thus preserves the noble Karst patina with a touch of modern intimacy.
