Kazina palace

David Mišič, Styria arhitektura d.o.o., Marija Režek Kambič / 2022
LOCATION: Kongresni trg 1, Ljubljana

One of Ljubljana’s historical icons, the Ljubljana Kazina, was built as the palace of the Kazina Society at the beginning of the 1830s. It is considered one of the few preserved multifunctional public palaces and one of the highest quality architectures of the first half of the 19th century in Slovenia. Shortly after its construction, it became the center of lively city life. Dances took place in it, it served as a military headquarters, hosted a popular assembly…

In 2015, due to space constraints of the Academy of Music, efforts to renovate the building and repurpose it began. The large-scale renovation project included the renovation of the facade and the large hall, where the original ceiling painting was preserved. The entrance hall, staircase and corridors were renovated and individual elements from the beginning of the 20th century were restored, such as stucco, paintings, floors, stoves, lamps and other decorations. The renovated rooms are complemented and connected by modern, functional architectural elements.
