Cultural and administrative center of Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici
Atelje Dialog / 2012
The new cultural and administrative centre of the town of Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici replaced the old Austro-Hungarian school in front of a 13th-century church. The building hosts artists’ studios, rehearsal rooms, and offices, as well as a 200-seat theatre, a multimedia space, a gallery, a youth club, and a local library, along with service rooms. The horizontal design of the building is balanced by dynamic vertical lines on the facade, reminiscent of the church tower. Thanks to its simple volumes, the building seems to be floating above the ground. The spirit of the local design identity was preserved by following the existent paths in the new square, which opens towards the church.
