Nuclear reactor Jožef Stefan

Oton Jugovec / 1961

The nuclear reactor with its special shape resembles a nuclear mushroom cloud and represents a unique contrast to the natural landscape. To the initial composition of buildings, consisting of the reactor, an administrative building and a water tower, the departments of chemistry and physics were added later. The specific exterior design of the reactor is characterized by the trimmed corners of the cube and dome roof form, creating an unusual interior space. The design of the internal stairs, prefabricated partitions, ceilings and other details indicates the exceptional quality of this building.
