Apače farewell chapel and Museum of ethnology and sacral heritage
Atelje Ostan Pavlin / 2018
LOCATION: Pokopališče Apače
The farewell chapel/museum is placed along the ontological axis between the city of living (east/morning) and the city of dead (west/evening). Its horizontality responds to Pannonian plain and reflects its contemplative character, while its trapezoid form plays with the principles of perspective inside and outside the building. A colonnade connects the building (solid) and the square (void) with their complementary geometries. Here, where people face eternal questions of life and death, the authors aimed to create a bright atmosphere of hope.
