CUKRARNA - CONSTRUCTION SITE

Scapelab / 2021
LOCATION: Poljanski nasip 40, Ljubljana

The Sugar factory was constructed in early 19th century, at the edge of Ljubljana city. Due to its multi-layered literary and architectural history it is protected as a built heritage building. In 2009 the Municipality of Ljubljana held an open competition for proposals, in which architectural office Scapelab proposed that the old structure be completely emptied of all internal structures, and reprogrammed as a large-scale gallery space.

In the framework of the OHS festival we are organising a guided tour of the construction site, where general contractor Strabag has currently completed rough construction works, and the final forms and dimensions of the new Cukrarna are taking shape.

Since we will be touring a construction site, please come in appropriate footwear. Bring a protective helmet if you have one.
