The Library under the Treetops offers spaces for free outdoor reading, browsing and indulging ourselves to public. For some years now the project has been produced by the Divja Misel (Wild Thought) Institute. In this summer, the courtyard of the EU House in Ljubljana, an old town house next to Breg, the main promenade of the centre of Ljubljana, has been turned into an outdoor library. Despite being recently refurbished, the courtyard wasn’t a cozy space, inviting one spend more time, because of inappropriate choice of materials and use of space. In order to turn the courtyard into an inviting European Library under the Treetops, a wooden terrace has been installed under a temporary green canopy. Thus a pleasant and inviting environment for outdoor reading was created.
The European Library under the Treetops will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10-13h.

Warehouse&office building Eko produkt Milan Rađenović , Peter Pavšič, Matjaž Križman / 2012 ADDRESS Poslovna cona Komenda, Žeje pri Komendi 307, 1218 Komenda
The design of the Ekoprodukt warehouse clearly communicates the company’s commitment to natural and ecological values. The purity of architectural expression, characteristic of industrial buildings, outlines the ecological potential of office buildings. The wooden structure made from cross laminated solid wood panels combined with steel elements and the facade creatively illustrate the company’s main occupation, which deals with timber. The thermal insulation is made from organic materials while the roofing foil comes from recycled tires. Together with low energy consumption, the building is an example of sustainable architecture, conforming to specific environmental and economic criteria.

Warehouse in Medana Studio UR.A.D., Boštjan Kikelj, Klemen Pavlin / 2011 ADDRESS Medana 53, 5212 Dobrovo v Brdih
The Medana warehouse is located on a steep hillside on the outskirts of Medana, next to the access road. Its form follows the shapes of neighbouring buildings. The client's wanted a modern facility for storing wine bottles that would represent the character of his wines. Because the plot was quite small and very steep, the warehouse extends over several levels, uncommon for a storage facility. An industrial elevator connecting all floors thus becomes the functional core of the building. The architecture and the signage are so discreet that it’s difficult to spot the building in the silhouette of the village, despite its contemporary design.
Water temple Kieran Donnellan / 2012 ADDRESS Levo nabrežje Ljubljanice pred Plečnikovimi zapornicami
This temporary exhibition pavilion was built during the MEDS workshop in Ljubljana in August 2012. The wooden pavilion was built using CNC technology and wood bending techniques. Curved and sharp edges of the pavilion evoke the atmosphere of a boat, which at first seems loosely placed among the line of trees, beside a sluice gate built by Jože Plečnik. That moment of stepping from dry land onto a water based vessel is imitated in the Water Temple, when a visitor takes their first tentative step onto the sliced tree-trunks which are placed, unfixed, throughout the pool. Primary school Brezovica Sonet, Slavko Gabrovšek / 2010 ADDRESS Šolska ulica 15, 1351 Brezovica
Low-energy elementary school was built on the site of the old school and it is three times larger. Despite new ventilation and the largness it consumes half the energy, and water consumption by installing rainwater tanks is reduced by two-thirds. From the demolished building they reused bricks, concrete, glass, soil, decking and wooden brackets. Building with excellent thermal insulation, flexible exterior shades and exploitation of solar energy provides thermal comfort at an extremely low power consumption (7.37 W/m3). Oil consumption for heating buildings fell from 9.84 to 1.78 l/m2 l/m2. The rational decision-making and reducing energy consumption in all parts of the construction process and the use of building a new facility is a good example, which contributes to less energy-dependent low-carbon society.
